All of us who live in Dubai know how dusty it can be. No matter how hard you try, the fine dust finds its way into the house, making it essential to dust the house regularly. But who likes dusting? It is perhaps one of those tasks we love to procrastinate over, but it something that has to be done for effective cleaning in Dubai. This is where I appreciate living in Dubai the most – finding affordable cleaners and maids in Dubai. It is easy to hire a maid in Dubai to come in do all these menial chores that one so hates doing. In case, you prefer not to have a maid, then here are some tips that will make dusting a breeze.
When to Dust
In a dusty place like Dubai, it is essential to dust daily. If you are a busy person and do not have time to do it every day, then at least dust once a week. But the weekly dusting has to be a lot more thorough than the daily one as a lot of dust builds up during the course of a week. If you have pets and kids in the house, then your problem is compounded.
Which First – Dusting or Cleaning in Dubai?
This is a tricky question. Some people prefer to clean first and then dust, others prefer to dust first and then clean. Much would depend upon what you are using to clean the house. If you are using a vacuum cleaner or steam mop, it is probably a better idea to dust first. On eh contrary, if you are using a broom to sweep the floors and then wet mopping it, then you should wait till after sweeping to do the dusting. After dusting, then mop the house.
I suggest this because when sweeping with a broom or a brush, the dust flies upwards and settles on surfaces. So if you dust before, then the clean surfaces will become dusty even before you have finished cleaning the house. Dusting between sweeping and mopping ensures that and dust and debris that falls during the dusting is picked up by the mop.
How to Dust
When dusting or cleaning in Dubai, do one room at a time starting from one corner and moving through the room. Make sure that you work from top to bottom. Dust the higher areas first and then move on to the lower areas. When dusting, make sure you do the following:
- Dust window ledges
- Dust the baseboards
- Dust the cupboard doors and wipe down the sides of all furniture
- Dust the doors and window shutters
- Dust all the flat surfaces
- Move things that are kept on surfaces to dust underneath
- Dust all the decorative items in the room including vases, decorative plates, figurines, etc.
- Dust the lamps and lamp shades
Make sure you do not leave any area. Use a microfiber duster or a lint-free cloth to dust the house. Make sure that you do not shake the duster inside the house. This will just redistribute the dust instead of taking it out. Use a light touch to dust. Rubbing vigorously could scratch delicate surfaces. You could use a damp cloth to dust as it will pick up more dust.
